This is my son joshua. He is 2 years old, he loves Thomas the tank engine, bob the builder, winne the poo, and the cbeebies tv channel. His favourite food is chocolate and chips(sometimes at the same time) and he loves carrots!!! He spends most of his time playing climbing pooing weeing screaming eating running riot and basically annoying me and my partner!!! Hes very special to me and here he is for you all to see. Check out my new photo album of josh me and my mate jamie. I turned 21 lastweek and my friends came to visit for the day. They have bought me 26 driving lessons and I am so so greatfull. Bushido-Way of the Warrior

I have been reading over the past few day’s about the cultures and traditions of the Japanese Samurai. Strangely enough it was after I had seen the film “The Last Samurai” that my interests really began to grow. The Samurai were expected to lead their lives following the strict ethic code of “Bushido”, or “way of the warrior”. It was developed in Japan during the Heian and Tokugawa Ages (9^th -12^th century). This code was considered to be very Confucian in nature. Confucianism is one of the three traditional Chinese religions. The other two were Taoism and Buddhism. In early Japanese writings it was said that Confucianism was introduced to Japan during the year 285 AD through the Koreans. Here are some of the most important principals of Confucianism:

Loyality

Morality

Consideration

Bushido was a strict code that entailed concepts such as loyalty to ones master, respect and self discipline, overall ethical behaviour.

Battle

Fate is in Heaven, the armor is on the breast, success is with the legs. Go to the battlefield firmly confident of victory, and you will come home with no wounds whatever. Engage in combat fully determined to die and you will be alive; wish to survive in the battle and you will surely meet death. When you leave the house determined not to see it again you will come home safely; when you have any thought of returning you will not return. You may not be in the wrong to think that the world is always subject to change, but the warrior must not entertain this way of thinking, for his fate is always determined.

 Origins and Influences

Bushido: comes from Buddhism, Zen, Confucianism, and Shintoism. These different combinations of religions were brought together to create the one code of the Samurai known as Bushido.

BUDDHISM: Brings the relationships to danger and death. The samurai don’t fear to die because as Buddhism teaches, after death you will be reincarnated and maybe even live here on earth again. The samurai are warriors from the time they become samurai until their death; they do not fear danger.

ZEN: This is a school of Buddhism. Through Zen you are taught to reach ones “Absolute.” Zen meditation teaches you to focus and reach higher levels of thought that cannot be described by words. It teaches you to “know thyself” and do not to limit yourself. This became a key tool to the Samurai to draw out their fears, unsteadiness and ultimately mistakes. As the samurai would undoubtedly know these things could get him killed.

SHINTOISM: This religion gives Bushido its loyalty and patriotism. This religion included ancestor-worship which meant that the Imperial family were the foundation-head of the whole nation. The Emperor then became a god-like reverence. He is the Embodiment of Heaven on earth. With this great loyalty in place, the samurai pledge themselves to the Emperor and their daimyo of feudal landlords, higher ranking samurai. Shintoism also provides the backbone for Patriotism to their country, Japan. They believe that the land isn’t just for their needs. Also it is a sacred home to the gods, the spirits of their forefathers. They must care for the land, protect and nurture it through an intense patriotism.

CONFUCIANISM: This relates to the samurai’s beliefs in relationships with the human world, their environment and their family. Confucianism’s basically stress on the five moral relations between the master and the servant.

However the samurai did disagree strongly over many of the writings of Confucius. They disagreed with a person sitting and reading, or sitting and writing poetry all day. They saw an intellectual person to be a machine. Instead they believed that man and the universe were meant to be alike in both spirit and ethics

Along with these believes, Bushido also holds the following:

BENOVELENCE

LOVE

SINCERITY

HONESTY

SELF-CONTROL

STOICISM

Justice is also one of the main factors within the samurai code. Crooked ways and unjust actions were thought to be lowly and inhumane.

LOVE and BENOVELENCE: Were supreme virtues and princely acts. The samurai followed a specific etiquette in everyday life as well as in war.

SINCERITY and HONESTY: Were as valued as their lives. Bushi ichi-gon, means “the word of a samurai,” this transcends a complete pact of faithfulness and trust. With these pacts there became no need for written pledges; it was considered beneath ones dignity!

SELF-CONTROL and STOICISM: These should be fully honoured. They must show no sign of pain or joy. They endured all, no groans, no crying. They held a calmness of their behaviour and composure of the mind. Neither of these should be bothered by passion of any kind! They were a true and complete warrior.

The factors that made up Bushido were very few and very simple. Though simple, Bushido made a way of life that nourished and held up a nation through its most troublesome times. Civil wars, despair and uncertainty.

"The wholesome unsophisticated nature of our warrior ancestors derived ample food for their spirit from a sheaf of commonplace and fragmentary teachings, gleaned as it were on the highways and byways of ancient thought, and, stimulated by the demands of the age formed from these gleanings a new and unique way of life" (Nitobe, 20).

I have no parents; I make the Heavens and the Earth my parents.
I have no home; I make the Tan T'ien my home.
I have no divine power; I make honesty my Divine Power.
I have no means; I make Docility my means.
I have no magic power; I make personality my Magic Power.
I have neither life nor death; I make A Um my Life and Death

I have no body; I make Stoicism my Body.
I have no eyes; I make The Flash of Lightning my eyes.
I have no ears; I make Sensibility my Ears.
I have no limbs; I make Promptitude my Limbs.
I have no laws; I make Self-Protection my Laws.

I have no strategy; I make the Right to Kill and the Right to Restore Life my Strategy.
I have no designs; I make Seizing the Opportunity by the Forelock my Designs.
I have no miracles; I make Righteous Laws my Miracle.
I have no principles; I make Adaptability to all circumstances my Principle.
I have no tactics; I make Emptiness and Fullness my Tactics

I have no talent; I make Ready Wit my Talent.
I have no friends; I make my Mind my Friend.
I have no enemy; I make Incautiousness my Enemy.
I have no armour; I make Benevolence my Armour.
I have no castle; I make Immovable Mind my Castle.
I have no sword; I make No Mind my Sword.

SILENCE STRUCK THE NATION THIS AFTERNOON AS WE REMEMBER THE VICTIMS OF LAST WEEKS TRADGEDY

What memories this day will bring to many people?  for me it was a day to reflect on not only Londons  tradgedy but a day to remember many other acts of terrrorism within the world. Its been a week filled with much sorrow and to everyone who has suffered a loss due to this horrific act my thoughts and prayers are with you! May we all have brighter less fearfull futures!

And so I place this single red rose as a tribute to the souls that were taken and let it also be a reminder to us all of our herritage. This is the red rose of England let it keep us strong and lift us up in times of dispair!
